Roof.Fit Solar

Solar that sits in the roof, not on top of it.

What Integrated Solar Is

The array forms part of the weatherproof covering, flush with the roof plane.

Roof.Fit is an in-roof solar system. Instead of mounting panels on brackets above the existing tiles or slates, the array is integrated into the roof itself, sitting flush with the surrounding surface and forming part of the weatherproof covering.

The difference is immediately visible. A conventional on-roof array sits proud of the roof plane with a visible gap and framing at the edges. An integrated system reads as a continuous dark panel within the roof, which is why in-roof installations are increasingly specified on new builds and on homes where appearance matters as much as output.

It isn’t only aesthetic. Integrating the array removes the mounting rails and brackets that penetrate the roof covering, and the panels replace tiles rather than adding load on top of them.

When Integrated Is the Right Choice

New builds, re-roofing projects, and homes where appearance matters.

Integrated solar makes most sense in specific circumstances:

  • New builds — the roof is being covered anyway, so the panels displace tiles and the marginal cost is lower than a later retrofit
  • Re-roofing projects — same logic, applied to an existing house having its covering replaced
  • Homes where appearance matters — architect-designed properties, sensitive locations, or anywhere a bolted-on array would look wrong
  • Planning-sensitive sites where a flush installation is easier to get across the line

On an existing roof that’s in good condition and not due for replacement, a conventional on-roof array is usually the more economic choice. We’ll say so rather than sell you the more expensive option for its own sake.

Weatherproofing Is the Critical Detail

An integrated array is part of the roof covering, which means it has to keep water out as reliably as the tiles it replaced. That puts the flashing, the underlay detail and the perimeter junctions squarely in the critical path.

This is roofing work as much as electrical work, and it wants a contractor who does both. ENCON builds and retrofits roofs as part of our design and build work, so an integrated array is specified and installed by the same team handling the rest of the roof rather than coordinated across two trades who each assume the other has the junction covered.

Ventilation and temperature

Integrated panels run warmer than on-roof panels because there’s less air moving behind them, and warmer panels are marginally less efficient. A properly designed system accounts for this in the ventilation detail and in the yield calculation, so the figures you’re given are the figures you get.

Specified alongside everything else

On a new build or deep retrofit, the array is planned with the insulation, the airtightness layer and the heating system rather than added at the end.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is integrated solar less efficient?

Marginally, because the panels run warmer. A good design accounts for it in the yield calculation up front.

Is it more expensive?

On an existing sound roof, yes. On a new build or a re-roof, the gap narrows considerably because the panels are replacing tiles you’d otherwise be buying and fitting.

Will it leak?

Not when installed correctly — it’s a roofing detail, and it’s why we treat it as roofing work rather than a bolt-on electrical job.

Can it be retrofitted to my existing roof?

Yes, but it makes most financial sense when the covering is being replaced anyway.

Does it qualify for the SEAI grant?

Domestic solar PV grant support applies to eligible homes regardless of mounting type. We handle the application.
