Airtightness Solutions

Installing an airtight system on a building involves the fitting of tape and membrane to eliminate air leakage from the building. This is measured in “air changes per hour”, the aim being to reduce this number to as close to zero as possible. Current building regulations require all new builds, both domestic and commercial take Air tightness into consideration at the design stage to ensure that as a nation we are building more efficient properties that retain their heat for longer.

The Installation Process

Intelligent Sealing and Testing

Achieving excellent airtightness is a highly precise process. Our specialized technicians apply advanced vapor control layers (VCLs), specialized expanding foams, and flexible airtight tapes to all critical junctions during your retrofit. We focus on the “hidden” areas where traditional construction often leaves gaps, ensuring a continuous, unbroken seal around your entire living space.

The Blower Door Test

We don’t just guess; we scientifically prove our results. Using specialised Blower Door testing equipment, we safely depressurise your home to identify any remaining microscopic leaks. This allows us to measure your exact air change rate, ensuring your property meets the stringent standards required for modern energy efficiency and SEAI certifications.

Unlocking Major SEAI Funding

One Stop Shop Requirement

B2 Target

Proper airtightness is a fundamental requirement to achieve the B2 BER rating needed for the SEAI One Stop Shop scheme.

While not funded as a standalone measure, professional airtightness sealing is essential for deep retrofits. It unlocks access to tens of thousands of euros in broader SEAI grant funding by ensuring your home meets strict energy performance criteria and is suitable for a heat pump.

Benefits of Airtightness Solutions

Draught-Free Living

Say goodbye to cold air creeping in around skirting boards, light fittings, and window frames.

Enhanced Insulation

Insulation only works effectively if air isn’t blowing through it; airtightness maximizes its thermal value.

Heat Pump Ready

A mandatory requirement for ensuring low-temperature heating systems run efficiently and economically.

Lower Energy Bills

By stopping the warm air you’ve paid to heat from escaping, you drastically reduce your overall heating demand.

Improved Air Quality

Blocks dust, pollen, and outdoor pollutants from entering your home through hidden cracks.

Moisture Control

Prevents warm, damp indoor air from penetrating the building fabric, eliminating hidden structural condensation.

Acoustic Benefits

Thoroughly sealing air leaks also significantly reduces noise transfer from the outside world.

Boosts BER Rating

A critical factor in the DEAP software calculations for achieving high A or B Building Energy Ratings.

What is air leakage in a building?

Air leakage is a loss or gain of air in and out of a building. This happens unintentionally when constructing the outer perimeter of the building and typically will take place through:

  • Joints, gaps and cracks in construction.

  • Gaps created around windows and doors.

  • Gaps where services enter and exit the building.
